Something appears to be preventing information from reaching the program after the scan. The only other thing it could be is the Canon printer/scanner, but as I have said it works perfectly fine with Omnipage. I noticed that Openbook actually installs FineReader and Omnipage 19 as part of the software and, I suppose, integral to the scanning and OCR process. The only possible cause I can think of is that it is, in some way, conflicting with my Omnipage Ultimate installation. I finally decided to try installing it on my Windows 10 Pro machine and it did exactly the same, went through the scanning process as it should do, tones throughout the scan, shutter tone at the end, and, once again, ‘current page is blank’. I have uninstalled, restored and tried several times with reinstallation but with no success. The problem started immediately after installing the software, so no idea as to what may be causing the issue.
